Overview

This river is just three hours away from Kathmandu, which makes this an ideal rafting spot for a short but very intense trip. The river is fun and challenging at the same time with fast rapids and is regarded as one of the best short white water rafting trips in the world. This is the steepest rafting river in Nepal, with continuous rapids. The trip leads through beautiful nature and you will overnight in a tented beach camp surrounded by mountains, forests and waterfalls. You can do this trip in 1 or 2 days.

Day to Day

1 Day

We leave early in the morning for a three hour drive out of Kathmandu valley through rice fields and the ancient town Dhulikhel. We drive toward the Tibetan border to the put-in point on the Lower Bhote Koshi. Once we arrive here, everyone gets a lifejacket and helmet. The guides will give an extensive safety briefing, explaining about sitting position, paddle techniques, guide commands and what to do if you fall out from the raft. After the safety briefing you start rafting down the river, where you will experience a series of exciting grade 3 and 4 rapids for a few hours. When you finish, the bus will drive you back to Kathmandu.

2 Days

We leave early in the morning for a three hour drive out of Kathmandu valley through rice fields and the ancient town Dhulikhel. We drive toward the Tibetan border to the put-in point, just below the dam on the Upper Bhote Koshi at around 40 km south of the border. Once we arrive here, we unload all the gear and prepare for rafting. After lunch you will be provided with a lifejacket and helmet. Then the guides will give an extensive safety briefing, explaining about sitting position, paddle techniques and what to do if you fall out the raft. They will also explain more about river currents, eddies, holes and the rapids. After the safety talk, you can practice a bit with the paddling and the guide commands. We then go on the river to experience a series of grade 4+ rapids as we go downstream. When the day ended we drive to the campsite.

After breakfast the next day we drive to the new put-in point. We first refresh everyone’s memory and warm up a bit before the action begins. You will then experience  several hours of pure whitewater all the way downstream with grade 3 and 4 rapids, with names like Gerbil in the plumbing, Frog in the blender and Carnal knowledge. The river flows through a narrow canyon. On the way we will take a lunch break and continue on more flat water until you reach the Great wall, an incredibly steep and technical rapid, followed by Liquid bliss and My god, what to do? You end the trip with a long series of drops, called Dazed & confused, after which we take out, load everything on the bus and drive back to Kathmandu.
