Overview

Chitwan National Park lies in the subtropical south of Nepal, and this reserve has 932 square kilometres of forests, marshland and rippling grassland and is home to sizeable wildlife populations. Here you can find a beautiful nature along with wildlife, like rhinos, bears, elephants, crocodiles, deer and much more. Chitwan is not only famous for its wildlife, but also by the ethnic Tharu culture, their way of living, culture and tradition and dance.

You will see a variety of wildlife, experience the local culture and do several activities like a jungle safari, jungle walk, canoe ride and much more.

Day 01 – Drive to Chitwan. Tharu village tour and cultural program in the evening

In the morning you take a bus  from Kathmandu or Pokhara to Chitwan. You will arrive at the hotel between 13:30-14:00. This is a good time to have some lunch. In the afternoon there will be a village tour around the Tharu village, where you can learn more about their life and culture. You can also visit the National Park Visitor centre for more information about the history of the park and the wildlife. After dinner you will go for a Tharu cultural dance program.

Day 02 – Jungle walk and jeep safari

You will get up early in the morning for breakfast. After breakfast you will take a canoe ride along the Rapti river. This is an excellent opportunity to do some bird watching and see the two species of crocodiles: the Marsh Mugger and the fish eating Gharial. From here you will start your jungle walk to look for deer, rhinos, sloth bears and other wildlife. After lunch you go for a jeep safari into the jungle, through grasslands and forests. The jeep safari will also take you to a crocodile breeding centre. The day ends with a nice dinner.

Day 03 – Bird watching and drive back to Kathmandu/Pokhara

Today you can wake up early again to go bird watching. Chitwan has over 500 species of birds, so there is enough to see. After breakfast you take a bus back to Kathmandu or Pokhara.
