Day 01 – Visit Kathmandu Durbar Square and Swayambunath

In the morning you will go by walk from Thamel to Kathmandu Durbar Square. On the way there you will see some nice temples, the local market and you can experience the Nepali life style. Durbar Square is very much the sacred heart of the city. Here you can visit the living goddess Kumari, who acknowledges greetings of devotees from the balcony of her temple residence. Durbar Square is filled with ancient temples and a museum showing some history of Nepal. Many of these temples were damaged during the earthquake, but it is still worth seeing. Have a nice lunch at Durbar Square.

After lunch you will get a transfer to Swayambunath (Monkey temple). This white dome  is the most ancient Buddhist shrine in the valley. The temple is located on a hill, with 365 steps leading you up to the temple. The pilgrimage is covered in colorful prayer flags. From the top of the hill you have a great view over Kathmandu valley.

Day 02 – Visit Patan Square and Bhaktapur

After breakfast you will drive to Patan, also known as Lalitpur. In Patan you find the most dense collection of temples and monasteries and it is the oldest city in Nepal. Patan Square is full of ancient temples and stupas, and listed as a world heritage site. It has a remarkable monument of Hindus god Krishna from the 17th century and a temple built entirely of stone. The formal royal complex is the centre of Patan's religion and social life. Walk through the small narrow streets, looking for small shrines, red brick houses and monasteries.

After lunch you drive to the last king city Bhaktapur. This medieval city is like an open museum, filled with temples, pagodas, ornate pools and ancient palaces. The palace of 55 windows is built in 1754 during the period of Malla king. The golden gate, and all the temples of various designs are great to explore. You will find many traditional red old buildings and locals drying corn and chilies, and making pottery. You will spend the night here, so you have the rest of the day to wander around to see all the beautiful things this city has to offer.

Day 03 - Visit Bouddhanath and Pashupatinath

After breakfast you drive back to Kathmandu, to visit Boudhanath Stupa, an important centre for Tibetan Buddhism. The stupa is one of the largest stupas in the world. It presents Buddha eyes on all four sides. The nose represents the number 1, symbolizing unity and the way to reach enlightenment. Above this is the third eye, symbolizing the wisdom of the Buddha.

Close to Bouddhanath is Pashupatinath, one of the holiest shrines for all Hindus, located on the banks of the Bagmati river. Thousands of followers come to pay homage to Pashupathinath every day. Elderly Hindus come here to find shelter for the last weeks of their lives, to meet death and be cremated on the banks of the river. You will see numerous platforms where cremations take place on a daily basis. You will be transferred back to Thamel.
