This 4000 meter high glacial sanctuary north of Pokhara is fully surrounded by the Annapurna range and offers spectacular views of Nepal’s major vast massifs, such as Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Fang and Macchapuchare (fishtail).

Day 01 – Briefing and preparation

Day 02 – Drive to Nayapul and trek to Ulleri (4-5 hours)

After breakfast, you will take a one and a half hour drive to Nayapul. From here you will start trekking. You will walk along the Modi stream to reach Birethanti, a village with loads of tea shops and guest houses. Then you continue along the Burungdi stream, hike up to the valley of Hile and Tikhedhunga, which leads you to Ulleri village. Ulleri is a beautiful Magar village. Here you will stay for the night.

Day 03 – Trek to Ghorepani (5-6 hours)

Today’s trek is a steeper uphill walk, with stone staircases. During the walk, the first views of Annapurna South appears. You then pass through Rhododendron forest. After crossing a stream, you will arrive at Banthanti. Following a stream up a narrow valley with more stairs you eventually end up in Ghorepani, where you will stay for the night. From here you can enjoy the spectacular views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range.

Day 04 – Hike to Poon Hill and trek to Tadapani (5-6 hours)

You get up early in the morning, for a one hour climb to Poon Hill. From here you can see tremendous views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range at sunrise. After viewing all the mountains, you trek down to Ghorepani for breakfast and proceed to Tadapani. From Ghorepani you will follow the path through forests. You keep climbing along the ridge through pine and rhododendron forests, with more spectacular views on the way. The trail then descends to a stream, leading to Tadapani, where you will stay overnight.

Day 05 – Trek to Chhomrong (4-5 hours)

Today you will go up and down through two river valleys, including Kimrong Khola. The route to Chhomrong might be blocked by landslides or a washed away bridge. In this case you will take a small detour. Chhomrong is a nice village located against the hill of Annapurna South, with spectacular views.

Day 06 – Trek to Dovan (6-7 hours)

From Chhomrong the path descends to the river, which you cross with a suspension bridge. Then you walk steep uphill, from where you can see the valley of Modi Khola. From here the valley gets narrower. The path narrows and has some steep ledges. The valley is filled with bamboo. You will reach Dovan, where you spend the night.

Day 07 – Trek to Machhapuchhre B.C. (6 hours)

This day will be tough, but beautiful. The route runs on the bottom of a gulch between Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre. The walls are so steep you cannot see the tops of the mountains. When the sun disappears it can get cold and foggy. You are a lot higher and it will be more difficult to walk. You walk all the way to Machhapuchhre Basecamp. 

Day 08 – Trek to Annapurna Basecamp Sanctuary (2 hours)

It’s only 400 meters up to Annapurna Basecamp, or also called Annapurna Sanctuary. Here you are surrounded by mountains more than 6,000m high. From Annapurna Basecamp you have mind-blowing views of Annapurna I , Annapurna South, Fang, Machhapuchhre (fishtail).

Day 09 – Trek to Bamboo (6-7 hours)

Today you will retrace your steps from Annapurna Basecamp, past Machhapuchhre B.C, to the village of Bamboo. This is an enjoyable trek, with great views on the way.

Day 10 – Trek to Jhinu Danda (5 hours)

Continue your trek downhill, crossing rivers and farmland, and countless steps on the way to Jhinu Danda. Here you can relax in natural hot springs!

Day 11 – Trek to Pothana (6-7 hours)

Today is a longer trekking. You will walk through forests and cross several bridges over the fast-flowing river below. The rich greenery of the area, with beautiful flowers, will make this day rewarding.

Day 12 – Trek to Phedi and drive back to Pokhara (2 hours)

Walk the short distance from Pothana to Phedi. Check out the views of the Annapurna range, as you walk through green fields and forests. From here you will drive back to Pokhara.
