Grade III/IV
Gorges
Whole year
A trip on Trishuli river means gorges, beautiful scenic valleys, rice fields and fun river rafting. Trishuli is exciting but not very difficult whitewater, which makes this a perfect trip for beginners and families. During this trip there will be lots of time to enjoy the scenery, but also for swimming and jumping in the river. Trishuli provides you with an alternative to the bus from Kathmandu to Pokhara and it is one of the most popular destinations in Nepal. This trip is a one-day trip, but during Monsoon you can do Trishuli in two days as well.
You leave early in the morning for a three hour bus ride to Charaudi, on the bank of the Trishuli river. Once at the river, everyone is fitted with a lifejacket and helmet. Then the trip leader and safety kayaker give an extensive safety briefing, explaining how to paddle and what to do if you fall out from the raft. Rafting in Trishuli is much more than simply forward and backward paddling. You use your whole body in an attempt to avoid the rocks and move through fast rapids and massive waves.
You will be rafting for about 4 hours today through the main canyon sections of Trishuli. There will be a couple of kilometers of smaller rapids to practice our paddling skills before we drop into the first class III-IV drop known as Twins Rapid. The swift water is confined to narrow gorges as we run exhilarating rapids such as Ladies Delight, S-Bend, highway, Monsoon, Upset and Surprise. Most of the time on the river will be thrilling, but you will also have enough time to look back at the river valley, watch birds and monkeys and take in the beautiful nature.
The take out will be at Kuringhat or Fishling, where the rafts will be carried up and dried while you can relax in the shade and have a cold drink and some lunch. From here it’s a 3 to 4 hours bus ride back to Pokhara or to Kathmandu.
